31 for 21 Day 11: Bringing Out the Best and Worst of Us

Have you seen this article by Dan Niblock?  It's a response to a tweet by the conservative pundit Ann Coulter in which she used the term "the retarded vote."

Dan and Ozzie

If you don't want to get in a bad mood, don't read the comments on the article. Here are a few choice nuggets:
  • Oh, freaking cry me a river. I am so sick of this PC garbage. Grow up and get a back bone.
  • Humanity is the only species on earth that fosters its genetic defects. This man has a few years to support his defective child, then he will die and leave the responsibility to the state.

As always happens in these cases, the maggots come out of the woodwork to proclaim their freedom of speech, to explain that it wasn't meant "that way", and to school us on the etymology and history of the word "retarded".

But let's not focus on the negative.  Instead let's celebrate Dan and all the others out there who are speaking out for our kids.  Read the comments Dan is receiving on his personal blog.  Here's an example:

"Just had to leave a quick remark.  I have always had this belief that the listener gives the power to words and I am therefore free to say whatever I choose regardless of how offensive. Sir you are the first entity to ever make me question this stance. I will make an honest effort to really think about the words I let leave my mouth.
P.S. keep up the good fight."

Now that's more like it.

  1. Good insight. I read his article and I saw a link to his original facebook post about it, which was impressive and full of swear words. Nice to see what's happening now!
